Mercury Toxicity Part 3: Testing for Mercury Toxicity

Posted April 13, 2011 in Home

My previous blogs from last month dove into the in’s and out’s of amalgam mercury fillings.  As the last blog showed, amalgam mercury fillings are the number one cause of mercury toxicity in the body followed by eating contaminated fish and drinking contaminated water.  Mercury itself is not an element that is useful to our body which is why it accumulates over time in the tissues of our body.  The over abundance of mercury in our system places us at a serious risk for illness.  Mercury accumulates mainly in the kidney, brain, liver, and hair.

The symptoms of mercury poisoning vary from person to person and can easily be misdiagnosed by physicians as other ailments.  These symptoms are: abdominal pain, nausea, excessive salivation, poor coordination, weight loss with loss of appetite, kidney disease, tremors, depression, memory loss including dementia, lethargy, inflammation of the gums, and weak immune system.

The uniqueness regarding mercury toxicity is that it does not have just one symptom, therefore the only way to tell if you have a dangerous level of mercury in your system is to be tested.  There are several ways to test for mercury metal toxicity.  They are; hair mineral analysis, blood and urine test and mineral imbalance test.  Of these tests, the hair mineral analysis is the most accurate heavy metal test.  Hair contains 1000-times more minerals than any other tissue in the body.   This test will allow you to learn if you have any other heavy metal toxicity such as; lead, arsenic, aluminum, barium, and nickel.   However, there are many conflicting reports on which method is most accurate.  Some articles show that the blood and urine testing for metals is only partially accurate, as the metals are quickly absorbed into the body’s tissue.  All articles agree that metal testing can be challenging as tests are easily contaminated and methods of preparation and collection vary at laboratories.

In closing my series on the dangers of metal mercury, I think it is extremely important for you the reader to know that my Biological Dental office safely removes mercury metal fillings.  We have a mercury particle and vapor vacuum which prevents patients along with our dental team from inhaling mercury vapor.  Please call my Riverside, California Biological Dental office to remove your metal mercury fillings and restore your health at (951)686-3666.
