Dental Emergency FAQ’s from our Riverside Cosmetic Dental Office:

Posted May 25, 2010 in Home

Toothaches and breaks always seem to occur at the most inopportune time which is why today’s blog is going to help determine what type of action one should take when a dental emergency arrives. It is extremely important to troubleshoot the area in question to be able to answer the following questions:
1. Where in the mouth is the toothache/break?
2. When did the toothache/break occur (while eating or playing sports)?
3. What were you eating/drinking etc. when toothache/break occurred?
4. What type of discomfort is present? (sharp pain or throbbing pain? Sensitivity to hot, cold, sweets? Pain when eating?
Gum pain with bleeding present?)
5. Is there swelling present around the tooth or visible on your face?
6. Is the tooth chipped, partially broken, or broken all the way to the gumline?
7. Is the pain manageable when taking Tylenol?
After gathering the answers to the above questions, it is important to call our Riverside cosmetic dental office. During your phone conversation, our dental team will help you determine when to come into to the office for an evaluation. Persistent pain, swelling, and/or bleeding are all reasons for an immediate visit to our office. However, not all dental traumas indicate an immediate office visit which is why as a patient it is critical to describe your dental emergency. For example, let’s say you were eating an apple and broke off half of your front tooth however you were not in pain; our office would guide you to come in immediately due to the break being in your smile view. Another example would be, while eating lunch you discover that a piece of your molar has broken off but there is no discomfort present; our dental team would recommend that you visit our Riverside cosmetic dental office for treatment of the tooth at your convenience. Our Riverside Cosmetic dental office emergency visits are available 24/7 for acute pain, swelling, and bleeding as well as cosmetic traumas. Please contact our office if you are experiencing any dental trauma at (951)686-3666.
