Riverside Dentist Fixes Loose Denture with Dental Implants:
Posted July 11, 2011 in HomeThe use of dentures to replace missing teeth used to be the only option when it came to providing a chewing structure to those who had little to no teeth. Now we know that when teeth are removed from the mouth 50% of the bone is lost in the area of the missing teeth. Also, the adjacent teeth also begin to loose bone over time. We also know the long term affects of missing teeth and dentures results in facial distortion and overall bone loss in the jaw bone. Overtime, the dentures begin to loosen because of the bone loss. This can lead to frustration and embarrassment for the denture patient as they experience the denture slipping while eating, tissue irritation, and the denture “popping”out of the mouth while talking.
If you or someone you know is experiencing “loose” or ill-fitting dentures, my Riverside Biological Dental Implant office has the answer for you. We have successfully treated many patients with these conditions and provided stable dentures with the use of dental implants. Dental implants have the ability to create stability with dentures. Dental implants support dentures by providing attachments for the denture to anchor on to. A new denture is made to match the attachments where the dental implants have been placed in the jaw bone. The denture can still be removed at night or during the day to allow for the oral tissue to “breathe” as well as to brush and soak the denture in a cleansing solution. Finally, it is important to gently brush and floss around the dental implants to prevent gum infection. Implant supported dentures are a welcome relief to those individuals who have been suffering for years with a denture that is ill-fitting. Below is an animation on how implants are used in the implant supported denture.
